🌸 The Legend of Wang Zhaojun
During the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC – 9 AD), there lived a court lady renowned for her intelligence, grace, and unrivalled beauty — Wang Zhaojun.
When the emperor arranged for a peace marriage with a northern tribal leader, Zhaojun was chosen to represent the Han Empire. Her journey north became the stuff of legend.
As she travelled beyond the Great Wall, a flock of wild geese soared above her caravan. When they caught sight of her ethereal beauty, they faltered in the sky — their wings stilled, and they fell to the earth. From that day, she was remembered as “the beauty who caused the wild geese to fall.”
The Wang Zhaojun Playing Cards capture this moving legend with a breathtaking balance of storytelling and traditional artistry. Every detail — from the card faces to the gilded tuck case — evokes the poise, sorrow, and heroism of a woman who became a bridge between two worlds.
Design & Craftsmanship
Produced by King Star Playing Card Company (KSPC), one of the most acclaimed premium card makers in Asia, this deck showcases the studio’s signature blend of modern printing techniques and ancient Chinese aesthetics.
Each card features original hand-drawn artwork inspired by Han Dynasty culture, imperial textiles, and classical brush painting. The court cards depict figures in richly detailed costumes, each face echoing stories of loyalty, sacrifice, and harmony between nations.
The Jokers illustrate Wang Zhaojun’s poignant journey to the north — a solitary figure surrounded by drifting feathers and migrating geese. The Ace of Hearts, symbolising love and separation, features intricate motifs symbolising both farewell and new beginnings.
The tuck box is a masterpiece in itself — embossed and adorned with metallic foiling, featuring subtle gradients of jade green and imperial gold. A seal sticker with Chinese calligraphy completes the presentation, giving the deck an air of museum-quality craftsmanship.
